Joyce Helen Bergman
June 20, 1940 – March 4, 2018
Joyce Helen Bergman passed away on March, 4th 2018. Joyce was born on June 20, 1940 in Spokane WA to William and Helen Manz. Joyce was raised in Otis Orchards, WA where she and her brothers helped farm with their father. She learned her magnificent cooking skills from her mother, who was the cook at Otis Orchards Elementary School. Joyce was known for her special baking treats such as, Yum Yums, caramel Brownies and pizza brownies. Her family always looked forward to Joyce delivering the birthday cakes that she would bake. Joyce married Paul (Dick) Bergman Sr. on October 17, 1959. They raised two sons, Paul Jr. and Jim in the Spokane Valley. The Bergmans were very involved in the West Valley Community, where all of their grandchildren were raised as well. Being involved in their sons’ activities was their way of life. From every school sporting event to trap shooting, even just to go watch them water ski. The support continued on with their 5 grandchildren, attending all ball games, dance recitals, school programs, and swimming in the pool. Joyce was employed in the West Valley School District for 32 years, all of her years were spent at Orchard Center Elementary where she was a teacher’s assistant, playground lady and special person to any child that needed one. She touched the lives of many throughout the years. After retirement, she and Dick continued to support the West Valley activities so much that, they were given a golden pass to enter any event they attended. Joyce enjoyed watching the success of the children that she worked with as they grew up and attended West Valley. Joyce enjoyed spending time searching for special treasures, or one of her favorite collectibles. She spent time in her garden, growing beautiful roses and her grandkids’ favorite raspberries. Joyce and Dick would also enjoy an evening drive to watch the wildlife, visit family, friends and revisit their favorite spots with cherished memories. Joyce is survived by her husband Dick, sons Paul and Jim, daughters-in-laws, Sandy and Connie. Grandchildren, Kelsey, Olivia, Billy, Brady and Carter.

What a wonderful tribute to one of my favorite people. I worked at Orchard Center with Joyce for years. I remember those Texas brownies of hers, fondly!!! We shared many belly laughs and she always made me feel 100%supported and valued. Joyce was magic with kids and had a way of teaching the whole child so that they knew they could learn and feel safe. She was one of a kind and holds a special place in my heart.
