We said “We Love You” to Karin as she passed away peacefully on June 15, 2018. Karin was born June 6, 1922 in Sundsbruk, Sweden to Tora Linnea and Axel Emanuel Palm. The young family emigrated to Fort Frances, Ontario, Canada in 1923, and then settled in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho in 1926. Karin’s brother, Gordon Emanuel Palm, was born in 1927 and passed away in 2011. Karin graduated as a Registered Nurse from Sacred Heart School of Nursing in Spokane in 1944, and she remained active in nursing until her retirement from SHMC in 1984 where she worked on the Open Heart Team. Karin married Glenn Mank (deceased) of Spokane in 1944.
Karin is survived by their two daughters, Nancy Hester (Steven) of Spokane, and Barbara Mank (Anton Kirchhof) of Portland, Oregon. Karin was also blessed with two grandchildren, Jonathan Hester of Spokane, and Kirstin Hester Thompson (Tim) of Frederickson, Washington, five great grandchildren, Jory Zettle, Jackson Peterson, Isabella Hester, Mariah Thompson, and Kolton Thompson. Karin married Kenneth White an 1992 and they enjoyed a happy loving marriage until his death in 2005.
Karin’s greatest joy was her family. Her loving nature touched everyone she met. She always made sure those she loved knew it and knew she cared about them as well as those they loved. Even to the end she was asking those around her “are you okay?”
Karin was a long-time member of Salem Lutheran Church and a past member of the Spokane Yacht Club.
The family would like to thank Karin’s caregivers at Orchard Crest Retirement Community and Horizon Hospice for their excellent and loving care of our mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.
A Celebration of Karin’s Life will be held at 1:00 pm on Saturday, July 21, 2018 at Hazen & Jaeger Valley Funeral Home, 1306 North Pines Road, Spokane Valley, WA 99206.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in her honor to Horizon Hospice of Spokane.
