Kayla Marie Wetherell

Kayla was born in Spokane WA, on June 7, 1992, to Edward Wetherell and Rebecca Bragg. She was tragically taken from us on January 15th, 2022. She was a smart, vibrant, beautiful young woman who could make anyone smile with her charm and wit. She attended school in West Valley before graduating from Deer Park High School in 2010. While attending West Valley she was awarded the Chase youth award for courage which she won for befriending other young people that were less fortunate than herself. At the age of twelve she was diagnosed with type one juvenile diabetes and had to take insulin daily and that was a daily struggle for her for the rest of her life. She loved animals; you could always find her petting or loving on any animal that was around. Growing up, she loved her dog Max and her horse Wrangler along with many others. Kayla and Wrangler went to horse camp together and had a great week. She also attended camp Sweyolakan with the campfire girls, and the diabetic camp Stix both of which had positively impacted her life. As she matured, she never lost her genuine kindness and warmth towards other people. Kayla struggled with her mental health and was a staunch advocate for mental health reform. Her life was short, but her memories are not. The impact she had on people will be felt forever.

Kayla is survived by her life partner Camishia Armstrong of Spokane, father Edward Wetherell and stepmother Julia Leese of Valleyford, mother Rebecca Bragg of Spokane, brother Skyler Bragg of Spokane, grandparents Ed and Anita Klein of Airway Heights, and grandmother Janice Bragg of Dallas, TX along with numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Funeral services will be held Sunday January 30th at Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral home in Spokane. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to camp Stix at www.stixdiabetes.org/donate or by mailing a check to Stix Diabetes Program PO Box 8308, Spokane, WA, 99203.
