She was born on St Patrick’s Day in 1945 in Richmond, Calif., as the middle child to Henry and Hazel Secrest.
After World War II, her family later moved to Electric City, Wash., and eventually settled in Southwest Spokane after her father worked on dams in Montana and Washington.
She graduated from Cheney High School in 1963 and went on to earn an IBM Keypunch certificate from Kinman Business University in 1964.
In 1966, Marilyn married Herbert Chapman and they had two sons. They later divorced.
While being a mom, she enjoyed gardening, cooking and listening to music, especially Elvis and country music. Her love of country music got her into line dancing, which she continued into retirement.
In 1989 she received a health unit coordinator associates degree from SCC. She worked in medical records until opening Shepherd’s Daycare two years later. She ran the daycare out of her home for over 20 years.
Marilyn was an active church member and with Wendy’s help was attending bible study at Valley Assembly until it was no longer possible.
She is survived by her sons; Travis (Wendy) Chapman and Tim Chapman; her brothers, Delbert (Dwyllis) Secrest and Kenneth (Mary) Secrest; three grandchildren, Bryn, Brooke and Jordan Chapman; and several nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents.
Please join us for a Celebration of Life Service in Loving Memory of Marilyn, at Valley Assembly of God, 15618 E Broadway Ave., Friday August 23rd, at 1pm. Reception to follow at same location.
