Melvin "Mel" David Siers

Mel was born on June 4, 1942, in Cleveland, Ohio, to Holden and Irene Siers. After graduating from Calhoun County High School in West Virginia, he enlisted to serve his country in the U.S. Air Force. It was during his military service that he met the love of his life, Charlotte. The two were married and shared a devoted, beautiful union of 64 years.

Mel had various jobs, but retired in 2001, after 27 years with Kaiser Aluminum, Trentwood. Mel and Charlotte lived in many places throughout their life, including Illinois, Colorado, Arizona, and West Virginia; they eventually settled in Spokane Valley, Washington, where they spent the last 46 years.

Mel loved God's Word above all else, having read the Bible through completely 105 times. He spent hours highlighting passages, reading through Bibles that he gifted to 6 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Mel faithfully served the church in many different capacities: teaching Sunday school, singing in choirs and musical groups such as "Born Again" and "The String Alongs," serving as a deacon, leading devotions, and building church facilities with his own hands.

Mel was a self-taught guitar player and avid outdoorsman who loved hunting and spending time in the woods. He grew huge vegetable gardens that he willingly shared with everyone. He had a passion for classic cars, spending many hours in his shop restoring them. Mel and Charlotte loved seeing the world, embarking on 36 cruises as well as trips to Switzerland, the Holy Land, Costa Rica, Canada, Mexico, and throughout the United States.

Mel is survived by his beloved wife, Charlotte; his daughter, Sherry Corigliano (Bruce), his son Kevin Siers (Janet); and a rich legacy of cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life will be held August 21, 2026, at 12:00 pm at Valley Landmark Missionary Baptist Church, 404 N Argonne Rd., Spokane Valley, WA, 99212. Live streaming will be available on Valley Landmark Missionary Baptist Church's YouTube Channel. A reception lunch will immediately follow the service.
