Merle Jean Schutte

Merle Jean Schutte peacefully passed away on April 21, 2026 at the age of 99. She was born in Lamont, Washington to Charles and Juanita Bowen on September 21, 1926. Jean was the youngest of three children. She lost her father when she was a child. She loved him dearly.

In 1945, Jean married Bernard Schutte. They met at a dance at Natatorium Park. They were married 70 years before his passing in 2015. Together they had two children, Lynn and Linda. They created a good life together in Spokane Valley. Jean maintained their home and raised their children. Jean had many hobbies; she enjoyed sewing, gardening, and spending time with family. As an adult, Jean loved a good game of pinnacle. She also enjoyed taking her grandchildren to the county fair, rodeo, and circus.

Jean was predeceased by her parents, siblings, husband (Bernard), and her son (Lynn). She is survived by her daughter, Linda (Floyd) Schmedding, bonus daughter Sharon Carroll, her grandchildren Amy (Jason) Priebe, Sarah Hunter, Emily (Matt) Branco, and 10 great grandchildren. Her family is grateful of all the years they had with her.
