Neil Alfred Davey

Neil A. Davey, 94, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on February 5, 2025 in Spokane, WA. He was born on Dec. 4, 1930 in Cadillac, Saskatchewan to Ezra and Frances Davey. He was one of 6 children, with 1 brother (Russell Davey) and 4 sisters (Isabel Ohlson, Esther Hemken, Reena Pierce, Ursula Davey), who have all passed before him. His father had homesteaded in Canada and after many years farming there, Ezra moved his family back to the U.S.A. and his original home in Freeman, WA. Neil was 7 at the time of the move and spent the next several years learning the ropes of farming the land and raising cows, chickens, and pigs. During his school years Neil met the love of his life, Donna Williams. After graduating he enlisted in the Army where he served as Corporal from 1951- ’53 and fought in the Korean War. Neil and Donna married while he was home on leave in Sept. 1952. When he returned home from war they began their life together on the farm and soon started a family. During his life, in addition to farming, Neil worked at the Spokane Flour Mill, at a Spokane Valley mink ranch, and for 17 years he drove bus for the Freeman School District both on a daily route and the rooter’s bus or team bus for school sports. He was an avid fan of all events involving his children and grandchildren, and rarely, if ever, missed something they had going on. When he wasn’t at their events he was busy with the Rockford Lions Club, church, fishing, hunting, camping, playing cards, or his favorite of all hobbies, woodworking…he was a true artist with wood.

Neil leaves to cherish his memory: his wife Donna of 72 years, four children – Debbie Morphy, Kevin Davey, Gail McDonald (Kevin), and Darlene O’Neill (Brad), 12 grandkids, and 16 great grandkids. Preceded in death by son-in-law Marty Morphy and granddaughter TyAnna Higgins. Funeral will be held at Hazen & Jaeger Funeral Home (Pines) on Mar. 1st, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Rockford Lions Club or Rockford United Methodist Church.
