

Ora Edith “Sally” Cloke passed away at her residence April 20, 2012. She was born March 24, 1918 in Gleichen, Alberta, Canada to George E. & Susan E. Stern. The Stern family moved to Ellisforde, Washington in the Okanogan Valley where her father was an orchardist & also a lay-minister of the Church of the Brethren. After high school, she graduated from Kinman Business College. While residing in Wenatchee, she met her future husband, Lorance W. Cloke. They were married February 1939 in Everett, Washington. Sally & Larry worked in the ship yards of Everett during WWII while raising their first two children in the family. They eventually moved to Wenatchee, where they were managers of the old Appleatchee Riding Club. In 1961, the Clokes moved to Pasadena Park in the Spokane Valley. Sally worked as a trust officer for Old National Bank in Spokane until her retirement. Sally was an active outdoors person. She was an avid horsewoman competing in many shows & gymkhanas around Washington as well as riding the hills just for pleasure. Mrs. Cloke was an original member of Wenatchee’s Appleatchee All-girl drill team & the former Mixed Drill Team which won the 1954 Washington State Horseman championship for mounted drill teams. Sally’s legacy as a horse lover & strong competitor continues on to a 4th generation with daughter, Sharon, granddaughters, and great-grandchildren riding in local & state competitions. Sally also enjoyed gardening & snowmobiling. Her love made her the cornerstone of the family. For all of her friends & relations, the door was always open at the Cloke house. Mrs. Cloke is survived by her daughters, Sharon Parnell in Deer Park, & Judy Yeo in Ouray, Colorado & a son, Michael D. Cloke in Clarkston; grandchildren Robert Cloke, Pamela Campbell, Jerra Cloke, Michael L. Cloke, Paige Cloke, Jessie McLaughlin, Melissa Stockman, Heather Wagner, William J. Yeo, Chad Cloke, Terra Parsons, Hunter Cloke, Benjamine Cloke & 18 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lorance W. Cloke & her son, Lorance Gerald “Jerry” Cloke. A Memorial service will be held May 4th, at 2PM at Orchard Crest Retirement Home S.222 Evergreen, Spokane Valley, WA. A family graveside service will be at Mountain View Brethren Cemetery, Ellisforde, WA. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials may be made to a charity of your choice.
