Richard Allen Janssen

Dick was born on September 27, 1937, in Butte, Montana, to John Edward & Florence Ann Janssen. He grew up in Coeur d’Alene, ID and graduated from Coeur d’Alene High School in 1955. Dick then attended North Idaho College before continuing his education and graduating in 1959 from Washington State University. He was hired right away by Procter & Gamble Distributing Co. in the packaged soap division. Dick was then transferred to Spokane in 1982 becoming a Key Accounts Manager. He worked for Procter & Gamble for 35 years before retiring.

Dick also served in the Armed Forces of the United States of America, Army National Guard, from 1955 until 1963, when he was honorably discharged.

After retirement, Dick & Paula spent winters in Mesa, AZ at their home there, soaking up the sunshine with friends. Summers were spent at the family cabin on Lake Coeur d’Alene, boating, playing card games, smoking cigars, and sipping bourbon.

Dick enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching his beloved WSU Cougars, as well as the Seahawks, 49er’s, EWU & Gonzaga, playing card games (especially pinochle), and showing off his 1942 Chevy hot rod.

Dick is survived by his wife of 60 years, Paula, a daughter, Elizabeth Lee (Tim) and a son, Chris Janssen (Nanette). He had five grandchildren, Cory Janssen, Kyle Janssen (Kendra), Rebecca Lee, Gil Lee (Kiara) and Anna Lee (Ryan Regan). Dick also had four great grandchildren, Logan, Vivienne, Gideon & Remington.

A Celebration of Life service will be held on July 30th, 2022, at 1:00pm, at Sun City Church -(10920 E. Sprague Ave., Spokane Valley). The family would like all who attend to wear a shirt/t-shirt representing one of Dick’s favorite sports teams – WSU, EWU, Gonzaga, Seahawks, 49er’s.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sunshine Health & Rehab - Resident Fund, (10410 E. 9th Ave., Spokane Valley, WA 99206), or to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research.

The family would like to especially thank the caregivers at Sunshine Health & Rehab and Hospice of Spokane for the wonderful care Dick received.
