Royal Lee Myhre

Royal Lee Myhre, 85, of Spokane Valley, Washington, passed away peacefully on December 24, 2025. He was born on October 13, 1940, in Montevideo, Minnesota, to Olney Aries Myhre and Alice Tomina (Blomlie) Myhre. Royal was the tenth of eleven children in the family.

Royal spent his childhood in Moscow, Idaho, and graduated from Moscow High School in 1959. While at Moscow High, he was an accomplished athlete, lettering in Baseball, Basketball, Football, Golf, and Track.

In 1960, Royal married his high school sweetheart, Arlene Kay (Pope) Myhre, in Moscow. They moved to California for a few years for work, where their first daughter was born in Anaheim. The family later relocated to Spokane, Washington, where they welcomed two more daughters.

Royal had several professions throughout the years from working at the Pope’s Moscow Service Center for his father-in-law, the Howard Hughes Aircraft Company, and selling Fuller Brush. He finally retired as a Civil Engineer in 2020 at the age of 80. He even designed some homes for people that were featured in the Spokesman Review on Sundays. He spent many years in the PTSA and Band Parents Association while his girls were in school. He was a member of the Inland Empire Mustang Club for many years. Royal had a love for the outdoors, enjoying many years of camping and fly fishing, on the St. Joe River in St. Maries, Idaho. He spent hours at the river teaching the grandkids to fish or playing cribbage and Yahtzee in his trailer with them. These peaceful moments by the river brought him great joy, and he cherished the memories spent with family and friends in nature.

He is survived by his three daughters, two sons-in-law, seven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. His surviving family includes:

• Christine and her husband Ron Jones of Cheney, WA, and their children:

o Heather and her husband Corey Cody and their boys, Tyrell, Andre, Tucker, and Ashton;

o Justin and his wife Melissa Manuel and their children: Maria (and her daughter Maeleigh), Dezeray, Evalyn, and Cash;

• Debbie Myhre of Liberty Lake, WA, and her children:

o Cody and his wife Tiffanie Kridler and their daughter Madilynn;

o Travis and his wife Shea Kridler;

o Noah Kridler;

• Angela and her husband Dick Howerton of Spokane Valley, WA, and their children:

o Levi Howerton;

o Bret Howerton his fiancée Trinity and their daughter Paisley.

Royal is also survived by his siblings:

• Marilyn Myhre of Long Beach, CA;

• Richmond and his wife Carolyn Myhre of Sacramento, CA;

• Theodore and his wife Jeanne Myhre of Eugene, OR;

• His sister-in-law, Jeanette Nauertz of Portland, TN;

• His brother-in-law, Lloyd Pope of Troy, ID.

Royal was preceded in death by his wife, Arlene; his parents, Olney and Alice Myhre; and eight of his siblings.
