Born April 24, 1925 – Died April 23, 2025
Ruth Holter was born in Jamestown, New York, and passed away one day shy of her 100th birthday, entering the loving arms of Jesus. Her family consisted of father James, mother Martha, and three older brothers, Stanley, Gordon, and Donald. Three weeks after her birth, Martha, Donald, and Ruth traveled by train to Spokane, Washington and reunited with James, Stanley, and Gordon on an small, old farm near Ford, Washington. All three of Ruth’s siblings preceded her in death.
After living and working in several small towns in Eastern Washington, Ruth settled in 1950 in Spokane, Washington. She worked, cared for, and supported her parents until their deaths. A common theme of Ruth’s life was selfless sacrifice.
In 1967, she married Henry Holter, and at age 45, she welcomed their only child, David, in 1970. Ruth was a homemaker, a devoted mother, quilting artist, and volunteer extraordinaire.
She was a member of First Assembly of God for over 55 years and volunteered as a Sunday School Teacher, Women’s Ministry Leader, and Food Bank Staff among many other roles. She participated in many working missions trips to Alaska, Fruitland Bible Camp, and elsewhere.
Ruth made and tied many quilts both personally and at church. She used them for wedding presents and to earn money for missions. Many years ago she also prepared several for her yet-unborn great-grandchildren.
Baking was also a specialty where she made whole wheat bread, cinnamon rolls, apple, strawberry-rhubarb, pumpkin, lemon, and huckleberry pies. These always left her family and friends clamoring for more.
Ruth was the proud grandmother of Rebekah and Daniel Holter. She took care of them in their early childhood while their mom attended nursing school. In 2007, when Henry died, she moved to Edmonds, Washington to live and help in the family home.
