A LIFE WELL LIVED
“Stan the Man” was a very proud Greek American. Being a young lad with such rich enthusiasm for a better life, he came by boat to the land of opportunity and received his American citizenship. He met the love of his life Callie, creating a wonderful marriage for over 59 years! His greatest gifts were his beautiful daughter DeDe, son in law Kevin, and the apples of his eyes, granddaughters Tessa & Sayla. And of course, all the grand-dogs that he helped raise, they truly loved him the best, LOL. He enjoyed taking his girls on trips to Glacier Park, Hawaii, and Greece, where they met relatives and got to know his passion for his culture, love of art, food, dance, and church. He also inherited his wife’s “Big Fat Greek family,” you know who you are and how much he adored you! His favorite holiday was Easter and he would throw a big celebration in honor of his Nameday at his home, and would roast an enormous lamb outside on a spit rotisserie and pour an ouzo shot for all. OPA! He was a dedicated employee for 41 years at Idaho Veneer Co. He enjoyed being a supervisor, and on his shift, production was always up. Stan loved his church and Orthodox faith. This incredible man with a heart of gold welcomed new members with open arms. As a little boy in Greece, he went to religion classes 6 days a week and church on Sundays. He was a lifetime member of the Order of Ahepa (American Hellenic Educational Progressive Association) which helped support/sponsor charitable causes, scholarships for higher education, and promoting awareness of Hellenic issues, all of which he cared about so deeply. It was always about others, so extremely humble. If you’ve ever come to Holy Trinity’s yearly Greek festival in September, Stan would be the one cooking thousands of pounds of orzo pasta, cooked to perfection. He has sold many tickets over the years and on his little breaks throughout the evening, he would make sure and find those individuals to personally thank them for coming. Afterwards, he would get everyone dancing. No one could lead a Tsamiko dance like Tasio! A strong person would have to hold him up with a white handkerchief so he could perform his special acrobatic moves in the circle dance. It was a beautiful sight to see and everyone would clap loudly and say, “Yasou Stan!” Everyone loved him. He had a zest for life like no other. He was loyal, kind and very comical and magnanimous! The door to his home was always open. Whether eating a famous Greek dish that he made, or playing a few rounds of poker, throwing horseshoes, badminton, or watching the Seahawks or Zags, you always left having a good time with a big smile on your face and especially, his. CHEERS to a Greek legend! Until we meet again, and what a magical reunion it will be!
