

Thomas Andrew “Tommy” Hawkins passed away on Saturday, September 3, 2011. Tommy was born March 27, 1992 in Spokane, Washington and was the youngest child of Paul G. Hawkins and Ann (Newman) Hawkins. He is survived by his parents, four brothers Isaac Redd Hawkins and his wife Emily and their children Lucy Rose and Jane Mifflin, Benjamin Paul Hawkins and his wife, Meredith and their daughter, Evelyn Ann, all of Spokane, Peter James Hawkins of Fayetteville, AR., Paul G. Hawkins Jr. of Chicago, IL; two sisters, Emily Ann Smith her husband Nathan Scott and their children Elle Madelyn and Truman Walker Smith, of Huntington Beach, CA and Elizabeth Hope Ashby and her husband Bradley Howard and their sons, Jonathan Bradley and David Bennett, of Redmond, WA; grandmother, Marjorie DeLong Newman of Salt Lake City, UT; numerous Aunts, Uncles and Cousins. Tommy attended Mullan Road Elementary, Sacajawea Middle School, and graduated from Ferris High School in June of 2011 and was enrolled at Brigham Young University-Idaho this fall. Tommy was a four-year letterman at Ferris H.S. in Cross-Country and three year letterman in Track and Field. He was very honored to be selected captain of the Cross Country team by his coaches his senior year. This team finished second in the nation in cross-country and won several state 4A titles a few years earlier. This honor was also the culmination of many years of hard work overcoming Asthma. Tommy was soft spoken, understated and concerned for each person. Tommy loved his family and treated everyone with respect and kindness. He was always known to have a smile on his face. Tommy loved working. He started his own landscaping business and was able to save enough money to pay for his entire college tuition. Tommy was frugal and enjoyed simple pleasures, like buying a new pair of shoes or purchasing gifts for nieces and nephews. His best friends were his Brothers and Sisters. He had recently been ordained an Elder and was preparing to serve a Mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Spring of 2012. Tommy leaves a legacy of Kindness, Thoughtfulness and Perseverance. His family and his friendships were the most important thing to him. His family and friends love him, miss him, and long for the day that they will see him again. God be with you, Tommy. Visitation will be held in the Relief Society Room of the Church Friday, September 9, 2011 at 9:00 A.M. A display will be in the Primary Room. Funeral service will be held at Regal, LDS Chapel, 63rd & Regal, Spokane, WA on Friday, September 9, 2011 at 10:00 A.M., with Bishop Chris Holland conducting. Interment will follow at Moran Cemetery, Spokane, WA.
