Born on January 31, 1947, in Fergus Falls, Minnesota, Vickie was the second daughter of Howard and Betty Emery. During her grade school years, her family relocated to Spokane, where she grew up on the city's north side. She graduated from Rogers High School in 1965 and attended Eastern Washington University, where she excelled in her studies, particularly in Spanish.
On June 18, 1966, Vickie married the love of her life, Dick Davis, in Spokane, after meeting while both worked at The Paul Bunyan Drive-In. Together, they raised two daughters, Deanna and Jenn, in the Spokane Valley. Vickie poured herself into family life—planning memorable trips, hosting wonderful parties, and making every holiday extra special. Her and Dick’s warm, welcoming hospitality drew in both of her daughters' friends, several of whom considered the Davis household their second family.
A savvy and innovative businesswoman, Vickie worked independently and side by side with Dick as co-owner of several successful small businesses. Beyond her professional achievements, she was a devoted homemaker with a lifelong passion for food, cooking, gardening, and home designing. She loved reading, traveling, and testing her luck at casino slot machines (she was very lucky!). She and Dick traveled the world together often accompanied by good friends. They also loved the Zags and were season ticket holders for Gonzaga University men’s basketball games, sharing their incredible seats with loved ones. Above all, Vickie adored her four grandchildren and their partners, and cherished her many dogs and cats throughout her life. She will always be remembered for her generosity, quick humor, fun-loving spirit, fierce independence, and her drive to live life on her own terms.
Vickie is survived by her daughters, Deanna Davis Rector (Robert) and jd Nielsen (Travis); her grandchildren, Blaine Rector (Rachael Groff), Davis Rector (Lily O’Doherty), Chelia Rector, and Rafe Rector; her sisters, Geri Ulrich and Beth Knapp; and her beloved five-pound dog, Oscar, who misses her dearly. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dick Davis, and her sister, Jean Ulrich.
Vickie will be laid to rest alongside her husband at Pines Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Vickie’s honor may be made to the Women’s & Children’s Free Restaurant and SpokAnimal.
