Annie Lou Groth was born to Simon and Lizzy Stephens on June 7th 1923 in Holly Springs, North Carolina. She passed away peacefully with family by her side, on January 29th, 2018.
Growing up she and her siblings learned the value of hard work; picking cotton and barning tobacco on the family farm. She was always very proud of her upbringing and her North Carolina roots.
While working as a clerk typist she met her future husband Chester Groth when he was stationed at Langley Field in Virginia. They soon married and were together for 63 years until his passing in 2009. After they married, they moved to Fairfield, WA where he was from and then later lived in Ione and Newport.
While raising their four children, she also enjoyed being involved in community activities such as being a 4-H leader (sewing classes) and working on election board. Anne was very proud of her family and enjoyed fixing holiday meals for them. We always enjoyed watching her light up when we told her how good her homemade rolls were. She loved visiting with all kinds of people and never met a stranger. She will be greatly missed.
Anne is survived by one brother Tommy (Betty) Stephens and one sister, Peggy Jones, both of NC, and brother in law Wilbur Tedford in MD. She was proceeded in death by her mother, father, and six siblings. Annie Lou is also survived by children Barb (Dan) Tryon, Spokane;
Gail (John) Rash, Moses Lake; Charlie (Jennine) Groth, Curlew; and Calvin (Patti) Groth, Spokane; as well as numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.
A private graveside service was held February 6 at Rosewood Cemetery in Fairfield, WA. Memorial contributions may be sent to Alzheimer's Association of Spokane at 1403 South Grand Blvd. # 202, Spokane, WA 99203.
