Ardell Easterday was born in Richland Center, Wisconsin to Merle & LaVerne Smith. Graduated from U of WI in 1949 with a degree in home economics. Taught 1 year in Johnson Creek, WI. Joined American Youth Hostel June 1950 and bicycled through Europe for 3 months.
Taught in Joseph, OR, 1 year where she met and married Eugene Fink who preceded her in death in 1998.
In 1961 the family traveled through Europe and into northern Africa in a Volkswagen camper, home schooling the children for 10 months.
Taught library at Lewis & Clark High School, Garry Jr. High and the last years at Shaw Jr. High in Spokane until she retired in 1984.
Married John Richard (Dick) Easterday in July 1984 and moved to Bayview, ID where they lived for 11 years before moving to Coeur d'Alene and then Hayden, ID. Dick passed away April 20, 2021.
Her surviving children: Karen O'Neall (Seattle), Randy Fink (Spokane) and Lori King (Spokane) along with their spouses and 5 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Son Brian Fink preceded her in death in 2001. Mike Easterday and Dixie Hughes are her surviving stepchildren.
She and Dick joined the Good Sam Group of Idaho in 1988 because they both loved to travel and spent several winters in Tucson, AZ.
Her hobbies were gardening, golfing, fishing, quilting, bridge and spent several summers at the Fink family lake cabin in lower Twin Lakes, ID. One of the favorite family "Momisms" from our days at the lake came from the 1,000 stairs (it seemed like it) to get down to the cabin. She'd say don't go up or down the stairs without carrying something (ie: being useful). She was the backbone of our family, dearly loved and will be missed.
