Carol Gene Fey
(Sligar)
April 27, 1933 – February 16, 2017
Carol, a native of Spokane and graduate of North Central, worked for the Crescent Fountain, Masonic Temple and Chamber of Commerce luncheons. At her girlfriend’s wedding she met the groom’s brother James Rockstrom whom she married on April 8, 1951 and they started their family. A busy mother of five children including identical twin girls, she joined a Mother’s of Twins Club. In 1966, the family moved into a little house on property in Otis Orchards. Eight years later they erected an historic building which they converted into a spacious home with a “beautiful view” that she loved!
Carol and Jim were charter members of the Spokane Yacht Club, attended Republican Action Club, Organ “Key” Club and Foretravel Rallies enjoying many fun times with friends and family touring the country. She enjoyed writing as a correspondent for the Valley Herald newspaper and was Historian/Club Reporter for the Motorcader. She remembered so many for holidays and birthdays. When emergency response and access to services were threatened by a planned railroad crossing closure she helped advocate for her neighborhood. Above all, as a follower of Jesus, she had an infectious smile and a compassionate and generous spirit for others. She loved teaching others about her Savior. God also gave her a strong sense of community. Carol used her organizational skills to create a “neighbor list” of over 100 neighbors to keep them connected over the years. Carol was preceded in death by parents Guy and Freda Sligar, husband Jim (Rocky), brother-in-law Richard Rockstrom, brother Guy Sligar. She is survived by sister, Gale O’Conner (Chuck), sister-in-law Joann Rockstrom, children Valaire (Murray) Poler, Kathi (Norman) Wilson, Kitti (Ed) Korntved, Leisa Rockstrom, Carl (Heidi) Rockstrom; 5 grandchildren, Jason (Maranatha) Poler, Lexine (Jeremy) Eaton, Cory (Karen) Wilson, Danny (Summer Johnson) Wilson, Rebekah Korntved and 10 great-grandchildren.
