The life of Caryl Ann Haase was cut short unexpectedly when she passed away on Tuesday, June 21, 2022. Born on May 17, 1944 to Irene and Jake Altimore in Spokane, Washington, Caryl was the oldest of three siblings - Dan Altimore and Janet Shacklett.
She graduated from Central Valley High School, followed by Concordia College in Portland.
Caryl returned to Spokane and married Clyde Haase in 1964 – fusing a bond that started when the two met in elementary school. Their 58 years together exemplifies what a marriage should be – selfless collaboration of two souls bound by unconditional love.
Caryl brought two children into the world, Chandler and Christopher, and devoted her life to raising the boys. She would later channel that same devotion into the lives of her grandchildren – Madison, Tyler and Logan.
She touched so many people throughout her life. She helped children build a strong foundation while running a preschool with her mother Irene. She made lifelong friendships through neighborhood gatherings, her mahjong group, “girls’ trips” to Priest Lake and her big passion – tennis. You could also call Caryl the “OG of networking” as she always kept in touch with distant family, friends and acquaintances – even as far back as her high school classmates!
Caryl also made an impact at Redeemer Lutheran Church in Spokane Valley through her involvement in various church activities. It started with choir where the congregation could hear her distinct soprano voice soar through the chapel. She would later join the worship committee and help move the church forward with a music-centered service format.
Her faith provided the strength and resiliency to get through the challenges thrown at her. It was this resilience that helped Caryl beat back advanced stage of cancer and kept her in remission for 20 years.
Caryl is survived by husband Clyde Haase, sons Chandler and Christopher Haase (Jonelle), brother Dan Altimore (Judi), sister Janet Shacklett (Bob) and grandchildren Madison, Tyler and Logan Haase.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 12 at 11:00am at Redeemer Lutheran Church, 3606 Schafer Rd, Spokane Valley, WA 99206.
The family also encourages people to post their stories and photos of Caryl on her Facebook page (www.facebook.com/caryl.haase).
