Our beloved mother, Cora “Alice” Muzeroll, peacefully passed away on the morning of Monday, June 7, 2010, with her son Mark by her side. She lived at Royal Park Care Center for the last two years, following a stroke in 2008. Mom was born in Jacksonville, Texas, on October 6, 1924, to James and Trannie Sewall, the sixth of nine children. She grew up during the great depression on a small farm in Jacksonville. Her parents would often invite men who were traveling the country, looking for work, to sleep in their barn. Trannie would feed them a delicious meal, she passed her love for cooking on to mom, and she became one of the world’s best.
During WWII, mom followed her brother William to Los Angeles where she became a riveter at an airplane factory. In 1942 she met a Marine Sergeant, Albert Anderson in San Diego. They were married in California on July 26, 1943. After the war, mom and dad moved to Spokane and settled in the Shadle area of north Spokane. Four sons and a daughter came soon after. Mom worked as a cook at the old St. Luke’s hospital and later volunteered at the American Cancer Society’s Discovery Shop on Garland.
Albert died of cancer in 1975; mom married Norman “Muzzy” Muzeroll a few years later. Muzzy had a stroke in 2000, and Mom took care of him at home as long as she could. After he went to a nursing home, she was there every day. Muzzy died in 2003; mom got lonely and so, she moved to Royal Plaza, into a nice apartment and made lots of great friends.
We will miss her cream puffs, her saying “well” and “I’m tired” in her Texas accent, her kindness, love and support. Most of all, her wonderful sense of humor.
Mom was preceded in death by her parents; her two husbands; her brothers, James, William, Francis, and Robert Sewall; and her sister, Mabel Owens. She is survived by her sisters, Ellen Belk and Carol Cone; her brother, Charles Sewall; her children, Dennis and Diane Anderson, Barbara Nelson and Paul Giersch, Roger and Cathie Anderson, Brian and Dianne Anderson, and Mark Anderson, who lovingly watched over her and was at the nursing home every day; her grandchildren, Wendy Anderson, Melissa Muller, Sarah Anderson, and Ashley Nelson; four stepchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and many dear friends, including Esther McCauley and Ellen Dahlen.
We would like to thank all the nurses and staff at Royal Park Care Center for your loving care of our mother.
Visitation will be on Saturday fro 10 AM to Noon. Funeral services will follow at 1 PM on Saturday, June 19, 2010, at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home, 1306 North Monroe in Spokane, with reception following. Burial will be at Spokane Memorial Gardens, next to Albert. The family requests in lieu of flowers, that you please make a donation to the American Cancer Society or the charity of your choice.
