Daniel Joseph Granahan, 64, of Spokane, WA passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Saturday, May 24th, 2025. Daniel - preferredly known as Dan (or "Dan the Man") - was born on September 24, 1960, in Fort Wayne, IN to Lawrence A. and Teresa E. (Kleinrichert) Granahan.
Dan was affectionately known as the funny man of the family. His light-hearted, joking demeanor was always prompting smiles on the faces of those around him. Regardless of whatever circumstances were affecting his friends & loved ones, Dan's infectious positivity brightened even the saddest souls. This desirable trait remained a part of him, even through the toughest of times. Over the last 8 years, Dan experienced constant health battles from an extensive list of complicated conditions. Despite these challenges, Dan remained a beacon of light until the very end.
Starting at a young age, Dan embodied the values of a strong, intelligent, kind, decent human being. He reached the Eagle Scout rank in the Boy Scouts, an accomplishment that he referenced with pride many times throughout his life. He credited much of his street smarts and life-skill knowledge to the scouts, and imparted that wisdom to his two daughters throughout their lives. His natural people skills propelled him into success during his employment in Energy Savings & Sales for Johnson Controls. Over the course of his career, Johnson Controls honored Dan numerous times (too many to count) with the Master of Sales Excellence award. His achievements were also recognized by the State of Indiana, Indiana Department of Corrections, for his dedication to improving energy production within the state's prison system. In the world of energy savings/HVAC, the name Dan Granahan has become synonymous with commitment and greatness.
In his spare time, Dan enjoyed many past times, including: golfing, attending Indianapolis' professional sports games, jamming out on the drums, listening to music spanning multiple decades, supporting his daughters in marching band, tinkering with tools, gardening, babysitting for nieces/nephews/great-nieces/great-nephews, watching M*A*S*H*, and traveling to tropical destinations in Hawaii & the Caribbean.
Dan is survived by his two children: daughter Katie (Aaron) Crandall of Spokane, WA and daughter Abbie Granahan of Fishers, IN, siblings: Kathleen (John) Weisbrod of Spokane, WA, Tim (Maggie) Granahan of Gaylord, MI, Maureen (Bill) Schnier of Marble Falls, TX, and Terry (Florence) Granahan of Oswego, IL, as well as numerous in-laws, nieces, and nephews whom will all miss him dearly. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of 39 years, MaryEllen (Kelty) Granahan.
Family and friends of Dan find comfort in knowing that he is no longer fighting an ailing body and is at peace with his life-long love. His legacy will live on in the smiles of his daughters, the lessons he taught his family, and the kindness emanating from those he impacted. The world is a better place because of Dan's presence in it.
