David passed peacefully at home Sunday, Aug. 21 after a long struggle with cancer. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather to 3 with 1 on the way. He was a gentle and kind spirit.
David was born in Spokane as the youngest of four children. He grew up in East Valley and graduated from East Valley High School. In his youth he was involved with DeMolay boys and became Master Councilor of his chapter. After high school he attended Spokane Falls and Spokane Community College where he obtained an A.S. in electronics. He met his wife of 37 years in 1970, they wed in 1974 and started married life in East Valley. In 1980 he and his wife moved to the Foothills onto the property that he still called home. He began to attend Foothills church after the birth of their two sons and eventually became member of the church. His sons were his pride and joy, he loved to take the family on vacations and camping every summer and was actively involved with the Boy Scout troop as a board member and merit badge counselor. He went to numerous summer camps with the troop along with weekend campouts.
He started his career in electronics as a TV and VCR service tech for Maier Radio and TV. In 1984 he bought the business from the retiring owner, renaming it to Maier Video and TV and had the business until 1994. David loved to joke and pull pranks integrating electronics with his fun. He made numerous games for the church festival that included flashing lights set to music, making frog mouths out of trash can lids and numerous other electronic booth games. He enjoyed camping, fishing, flying model airplanes and helping his sons with their projects as they started their lives. Spending time with his family was the most important thing in his life.
David is survived by his wife Janice, sons John and Allen, daughter-in-laws Melissa and Karla, grandsons Preston, Bryton and Archer, sisters Janet Smith and Jean Pearce, brother-in-law Homer Smith and sister-in-law Carol Coburn as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents George and Evelyn Coburn and brother George Coburn. He was dearly loved by his family and friends and will be missed by all.
The memorial service followed by a luncheon will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday Aug. 27 at Foothills Community Church 11102 N. Forker Rd. Spokane, WA.
