Donna was born just before her identical twin, Deanna, on November 19th, 1937 in Kalispell, Montana. Her parents were Glenn and Violet (Harris) Coleman. Donna spent the first five years of her life in Kalispell, then the family moved to the Gonzaga district in Spokane, Washington. The four sisters, Florence, Janice, Donna and Deanna had many fond memories of that area.
Donna made her choice to serve God at Dagmar Convention in Montana when she was 13 years old. She met Gene in the summer of 1955 at a friend’s lake cabin on Loon Lake. In the fall of 1955, Donna started nurse’s training at Deaconess hospital in downtown Spokane, graduating in October of 1958.
Gene and Donna married on July 14th, 1958 and she began her nursing career at Deaconess Hospital’s nursery. They moved to Moscow, Id in 1962 when Gene started working at the post office and Donna worked at Gritman Memorial Hospital in the evenings. She worked labor and delivery and some ER shifts, all while raising a family of 5 children. They valued the Sunday morning meeting in their home and the many friends and college students that passed through.
In 1978 the family moved to Davenport, Washington, where she worked a few evenings a week at the 24-bed hospital. In 1983 the family moved to Fairfield, Washington and lived there until she and Gene moved back into Spokane upon his retirement in 2004. She expressed a thankfulness for the fellowship meetings placed in their home and the many that came throughout the years.
Donna is survived by her children: Deanna Huddle (Brian), Kent Schluter (Carol), Tamara Dees, Aaron Schluter (Esther), and Shaun Schluter (Sandra). She left 12 grandkids and 26 great-grandkids. All were her favorite. She was preceded in death by her parents and three sisters, her husband Gene, and a son-in-law, Bill Dees.
There will be a private graveside service. The family is thankful for the care she received through Hospice of Spokane.
