Elda, the youngest of five children, was born in Spokane on April 29, 1922, to Maria and Valentino Pagnutti. She attended St Ann’s Parochial School and Marycliff High School, graduating in 1940. On June 5, 1941, mother married Carl C Close. They were blessed with four children: Carol, Tonya, Pam, and Tony. Mother retired from the Old National Bank after 33 years, having started as a teller and retiring as Operations Officer. Her plans upon retirement were to travel, and she did so extensively, missing only the continents of Africa and Antarctica. For her, family came first. Even though retired she seldom missed attending her grandchildren’s games of baseball, basketball, football, hockey, soccer and softball. She was quite the sports fan. Also, never missing an opportunity to cheer for the Seahawks, Green Bay, Notre Dame, Mariners or the Zags. Her mornings began with coffee and solving the daily crossword and jumble puzzles. Completing the puzzles, she headed to therapy three days a week. Therapy was most often spending a few yours at the Coeur d’Alene Casino or Northern Quest. Elda is preceded in death by her parents, four siblings, husband, son Tony, and daughter Tonya. She is survived by her daughters Carol C. Johnson and Pam (Lon) Dale; six grandchildren: Bradley King, Christopher (Lisa) Close, Carrie (Mike) Loomis, Amy “Betsy” Johnson, Kyle (Liz) Dale, and Blane (Megan) Dale; 14 great-grandchildren, and 4 great-great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
