Harold was a life-long resident of Spokane graduating from North Central High School in 1938. He then attended Kinman University and graduated with an accounting degree. Harold enrolled at Washington State University, but his education was interrupted by WWII. He served in the Army for 3 ½ years as a demolition instructor in England and France. After the war, he returned to WSU to continue his studies and met his future wife, Dolanne Fenton. They were married August 10, 1947. In January 1948, Harold graduated with a BS degree in Mining Engineering. His career started in Chihuahua, Mexico where he worked in the creation of a new tin mine. Shortly thereafter, Dolanne and Harold returned to Spokane, and he joined his brothers in a newly acquired business, Krueger Sheet Metal. Under his leadership and guidance, the business grew into a successful, established fixture in the construction industry. His goal was always customer service and a commitment to quality that endures to this day through two successive generations of Brandt family. Harold’s career spanned 40 years, and he retired in 1988.
Harold enjoyed an active life during his working years helping Dolanne raise their four children. He developed interests in stamp collecting, bowling, gardening, snow skiing, running, and sailing. Spending days at Windy Bay on Lake Coeur d’ Alene was a special family time with children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Later in life, Harold and Dolanne developed an avid interest in snow skiing traveling throughout the West in a caravan of motor homes with their skiing friends. After retirement, they traveled extensively throughout the world.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents, brothers and their wives, Carl (Mary) and Robert (Marilyn). He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Dolanne, their four children, Julie Snow (Jeff), Tom Brandt (Mary), Sherry Shoemaker (George), Ellen Lamoree (Bret), eight grandchildren, Jenny Nicks, Toby Brandt, Dan Snow, Bekah Brandt, Trevor Shoemaker, Sam Snow, Ashley Shoemaker, Alex Brandt, and nine great-grandchildren.
A celebration of life will be held at Hazen & Jaeger Funeral Home, 1306 North Monroe on Friday, April 27 at 2:00 pm followed by a reception.
