Harold (Hal) Colburn, beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed away on Sept 6, 2021. The son of Harold and Marie Colburn, he was born on Dec. 20, 1935 in Merced and raised in Plymouth CA, the middle of 5 children. Hal was not just a glass half full person; he was a glass completely full person. He was a prayer warrior, encourager, risk taker, humorist, dreamer who always believed all things were possible. He never met a stranger, as he talked and shared with everyone. Life was always an adventure when you were with Hal. After a stint in the Army, Hal graduated from the University of Utah with a Pharmacy degree and settled in Sacramento, CA with his wife Lois and two sons, Paul and Jeff. On a vacation to Cusick, WA, they found a ranch and decided to buy it. He worked many hours as a pharmacist while also running the ranch with Lois. It was a hard life, but a great place to raise a family. Many happy memories were created and lessons learned showing cattle and riding the range. Hal started a career in Real Estate, opening a Century 21 office in Newport. He spent many hours helping the community as part of 4-H, Kiwanis, Church, Chamber, and Booster Club, to name a few. After a second divorce, Hal stepped back and recreated himself. Part of that recovery was on the road, as he parlayed his success in Bloomsday into running the Portland Marathon. He also rode a tandem bike across America with Leah, his soon to be wife. If they could survive that experience, they thought they could handle marriage, which they did in 1997. Hal continued to work in real estate during this time and he and Leah enjoyed a biking trip or two, one to the Netherlands. Dad suffered a stroke in 2005 and while he did not fully recover, he recovered enough to share his wit, wisdom, and love with all, but especially his grandkids as he was their biggest fan during their basketball careers. Hal will be remembered for many things, but especially the following; his love of the Lord as he was on fire for Jesus once he got tapped on the shoulder that Easter service many years ago, his sense of humor and the ability to laugh so hard at his own joke he would cry, and his positive attitude and belief that all things were possible to accomplish, not only for himself but also for all those around him. He made the people around him better for having had him in their life. Hal courageously fought Dementia the last few years of his life. Leah has been an incredible angel of light during his fight as she cared for him and allowed him to spend more time at home. Words cannot describe the heroic efforts she has accomplished over the last 16 years to care for Hal. It was an incredible blessing to have her by his side during this journey and she is an awesome model of what love is in action.
Hal is survived by his wife Leah, sons Paul (Patti) and Jeff (Angie) Colburn, Tara (Manny) Divittorio, grandkids Neal, Emily, Christa, Gus, Toby, Miranda and Damon and six great grandchildren.
A Graveside service will be held at 1 PM on September 20th at the Medical Lake Veterans Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, we ask that you take a moment and honor his memory by speaking words of encouragement and love to someone God puts in your path today.
