Mrs. Irene Strong

Strong, Irene P. (age 83) went to be with her Lord and Savior on March, 29, 2011. She is survived by her son Doug (Barbara) Strong; her grandsons, Richard W. (Julissa) Strong and Thomas D. (Trish) Strong; and by four great grandchildren, with one more on the way. She is preceded in death by her son, Richard “Dick” W. Strong, Jr. who was killed in Vietnam in 1968, and by her husband of 45 years, Richard W. “Bill” Strong in 1993. Irene was born in Minneapolis, MN in 1928. At the age of nine, she moved to Spokane with her family. She graduated from West Valley High School in 1944 and attended Whitworth College. Irene worked for the Naval Supply Depot, International Harvester, Spokane School District 81, and retired as a Loan Officer for the Small Business Administration in 1988. Until recently, she was active in Gold Star Mothers and Sons of Norway. She was also very active in her church, Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, where she sang in the choir. She enjoyed golfing, traveling, and the occasional martini. She was a loving mother and the rock of our family; she will be greatly missed! Visitation for Irene will take place on Friday, April 8th, 2011 from 12:00 PM until 4:30 PM at Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home, 1306 N. Pines Rd, Spokane Valley. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 9th, 2011 at 10:00 AM at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 2511 S. Pines Rd, Spokane Valley. Interment will follow at Pines Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Irene to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.
