James John Weisen was born to John and Karolina Weisen on June 4, 1921 in Minneapolis, MN. A creative and active kid, Jim decided early on he wanted to be an artist. As a young man, he served in WWII in the Army Air Corp as an aerial photographer and upon discharge, graduated from Minneapolis School of Art. Soon after, Jim met the girl of his dreams, June Lois Keller, and they married June 10, 1949. Jim worked as a commercial artist and sign painter and in 1955, he and June moved the family to Spokane Valley, WA where they lived for the next 63 years. Jim worked as Art Director for Rena-ware and continued to do freelance artwork for various clients. He and June were active members of Spokane Valley Church of the Nazarene and made several trips to the mission field to help build churches. In 1997, Jim and June made their last trip to Papua New Guinea where they taught nationals how to silkscreen charts which aided in spreading the Gospel to tribes who did not have the written word. Jim never missed an opportunity to testify to the saving power of Jesus Christ. After June’s death in 1997, Jim married Susan Glidewell who joined him for the remainder of his life. He continued his artistic talent by teaching watercolor classes in the basement of his home until August 2018, when he was diagnosed with brain cancer. On December 6, 2018, with family by his side, Jim peacefully passed from this world into the arms of Jesus, whom he knew intimately. He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, grandson, Jared Scott Weisen and wife, June. He is survived by wife, Sue; three sons, Jeff (Debbie) of Vancouver, WA, Jan (Sheryl) of Boston, MA and Jaryl (Nancy) of Spokane Valley; one daughter, Jennifer (Rollin) Hoyle of Spokane Valley; step-daughter, Pam (Bryan) Macduff of Seattle, WA; grandkids, Edward, Andrea, Larry, Tyler, Garrett, Marshall, Samantha and Dylan. Services will be held December 27, 2018 at 10:00am at Spokane Valley Church of the Nazarene, 15515 E. 20th. Interment to follow at Pines Cemetery.
