Jonathan Grove Bixby, “Jon”, passed away unexpectedly on August 14, 2018 in Spokane. Jon was born in Culver City, California on April 24, 1949. Jon grew up in Southern California and became an avid sailor, pilot and hydroplane racer. Jon graduated from Orange Coast Community College with his AA degree prior to meeting his wife, Cheryl. They married in August of 1974 and have two children, Peter and Katie.
Jon is survived by his wife Cheryl; children, Peter (his wife Kate and their son, Jake), Katie Bernards (Matt and their two children, Claire and Charlie) and his brother Rex G. Bixby.
Jon had a successful antique business highlighted by many years of traveling back and forth to London and Scotland. After years of this business, Jon decided it was time to try something new. The family moved from Southern California to Oregon and ultimately settled into Spokane in December of 1988 where he lived until his passing.
Jon served in the Air National Guard from 1968-1978. Jon became a Mason while living in Southern California and a Shriner in 1993 after moving to Spokane. Jon had a way with people. He could make friends in an elevator and was always happy to welcome new friends into his inner circle with a hearty laugh or a Rum and Coke. Jon was a mischievous and loving Husband, Father, Father-in-law and Grandpa.
We are deeply saddened by his passing but have solace by the fact that he is watching over us, laughing at our shenanigans all while sipping on the above stated Rum and Coke.
A Celebration of Life is scheduled for September 8, 2018 from 2pm-5pm at their residence.
