Born November 14, 1950 in Spokane, to Clarence and Cecilia Sodorff, he graduated from Central Valley High School in 1969. Mark served in the Army National Guard. On September 19, 1970, he married his high school sweetheart, Kathleen (Kathy) Grier. They were lovingly married for 47 years.
Mark and Kathy began their lives in Spokane and moved to Colville where he managed a plumbing company. They moved back to Spokane where he owned and operated Newsprint Transportation which was later sold. He then worked for the Spokesman Review until he retired in 2010. Most recently, Mark and Kathy enjoyed retirement together and spent winters in San Diego, California.
Mark had a large extended family and numerous cousins whom he enjoyed lifelong friendships with. As a child, Mark and his cousins would gather every Sunday for dinner where most of the extended family lived within two blocks of each other. Later in life, Mark and Kathy enjoyed many trips visiting these cousins and celebrating momentous occasions and family reunions.
Mark will be especially remembered for his love of hunting, fishing, family gatherings, and cooking. He enjoyed years of hunting birds and big game with his son, brothers, and nephews. He enjoyed fishing at Neah Bay, Alaska, and Rock Lake. He loved to cook and enjoyed carrying on the tradition of Sunday dinners with his own children and grandchildren.
Mark is lovingly remembered and survived by his wife, Kathy; their two children, Mark Sodorff and his wife, Michelle; Sheri Cross and her husband, Travis; seven grandchildren, Kayla and her husband, Dane Prize; Meggie Cross; Cyrus Cross; Emolie; Jack; Anna; and Adam; two great-grandchildren, Harlee and Kade Prize; mother-in-law Dorothy Grier; two brothers, Gary Sodorff; and Brian Sodorff and his wife, Susan; brothers-in-law, Steve Grier and his wife, Sann; Tom Grier and his wife, Deb and their families; nephews, T.J Grier and his family; Trevor; Max; and Austin; niece, Jenda Grier; and the rest of his family and friends.
Mark is preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, father-in-law Jack Grier, and great-grandmother-in-law Ann Sullivan.
Services will be held on Thursday, April 12 at 11:00am at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 4521 Arden Road, Otis Orchards, Washington. Burial will be at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, 17825 East Trent Avenue, Spokane Valley, Washington at 12:30 p.m. A reception will be held at the church following the burial. All are welcome.
