

Mary was born in Oregon City, Oregon, to parents Lewis and Luella (Lula) Welch. As a
child, she lived in various places in Oregon, and graduated from Tillamook High School
in 1940.She married Lawrence E. Hatton on August 19, 1940, in Tillamook. She lived in Sweet
Home for 12 years, Albany for 52 years, and Spokane, WA for 8 years.
Mary provided childcare, as well as foster care for a number of children in her home at
various times and also worked for Coronet Store, Erickson’s Bakery and J. C. Penney.
After retiring, her interests turned to her grandchildren. She loved camping, fishing,
flowers, crafts and people. Mary had the gift of hospitality and enjoyed planning and
cooking meals with beautiful table settings.
She has been a very active member of the Church of the Nazarene most of her life. She
was a blessing to many friends through the years.
Mary was preceded in death by her infant brother, Claude, and her husband, Lawrence.
Surviving, is her daughter, Janice Kubicek, and son-in-law, Darwin, of Spokane, and her
sister Esther Ward, of Salem, OR, as well as her four grandchildren, Todd, Tara, Trisha
and Troy, and fourteen great grandchildren.
There will be a graveside service at the Lebanon IOOF Cemetery, Saturday,
March 12 at 1:30pm, followed by a reception at Valley Christian Center 577 Scravel Hill
Road, NE Albany. Memorial contributions may be made to Bethel Church of the
Nazarene, 1111 S. Thor, Spokane, WA, 99202, for the Nazarene Alabaster Fund. The
Alabaster offering provides mission funds for property and buildings around the world.
