

Melvin E. Hill, a longtime Spokane area resident, passed away on July 14, 2010 at Rose Terrace Country Homes, Spirit Lake, ID. He is preceded in death by his wife, Kathleen Hill, and his daughter, Carol Ollis.
Melvin was born April 3, 1918 in Mesa County, Colorado. Always an incredible craftsman, Melvin carved himself a niche as a professional carpenter and member of numerous rock tumbling clubs in Spokane. He could almost always be found enjoying the great outdoors, going hunting, fishing, and working in his garden and orchard. Melvin found great joy as a member of the Eagles Club and in creating beautiful pieces of jewelry and works of art from the wood and rocks of the local landscape. He also greatly enjoyed playing with his dog, Buddy.
He is survived by his brother, Eugene Hill, and two sisters, Marion Town and Marie McDevitt, as well as six remaining children: Marilyn Mansouria, Thomas Hill and his wife Theresa, Kathy Wong and her husband Miguel, David Hill and his wife Patti, Deborah Thoreson, and Barbara Sosnowski and her husband Dana. Melvin leaves behind twelve grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be on Monday, July 19, 2010 from 10 AM to 12:30 PM at Hazen & Jaeger Funeral Home, 1306 N. Monroe Street. Funeral services will be held at 1 PM in the Alwin Chapel at Hazen & Jaeger, followed by graveside services at Riverside Memorial.
