Michael J. Pope was born on May 4, 1949 in Nebraska City, Nebraska to Clemeth James Pope and Janice Faye DeLozier-Pope. Michael graduated from Rosalia High School WA in 1968. He started college and then enlisted in the Army, serving honourably in the 2nd Battalion, 16th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division, with a tour in Vietnam from June 1969 to June 1970. He was proud of his service to our country, leaving the Army as a Specialist-5. After his military service, Michael became a member of Operating Engineers Local #370, working on construction projects throughout eastern Washington. In 1976 Michael married Valerie, the mother of his three children, Kevin, Cara, and Brian. Michael was a strong, faithful, amazing man who loved the Lord, loved people, and always had time for anyone in need or distress. Many people were touched by his kindness, wisdom and counsel. In August 2003, Michael married his beautiful wife, Carolyn Nash, and embraced her children, Jared and Laura, and grandchildren Ethan, Josiah and Silas as his own. He treasured time with his family and was a wonderful and loving husband and father. Michael was employed with the City of Pasco, in the Public Works department. His commitment to excellence was evident, yet he looked forward to retirement and travel. Michael had an engaging smile and wonderful sense of humor. He loved to tease and tell stories, and his laughter was infectious and uplifting. He was dearly loved by many people and we will miss him very much. Michael was preceded in death by his son, Kevin Pope; father, Clemeth J. Pope; and his stepfather, Fred Driver. Words cannot express how deeply sorry Rick and I were to have learned that Michael had passed away. What a shock! He seemed like such a kind and gentle soul. I remember the two of you coming to the hospital to visit Rick not that long ago. So hard to believe about his passing. You are in our hearts and prayers.
