CURRY, Nancy Ruth (Gajafsky) Nancy was born on January 2, 1950 in Green Bay, WI to Ralph and Marjorie Gajafsky. She passed away on January, 22, 2014 in Spokane, WA ending her 4 ½ year battle with breast cancer. Nancy was a woman of faith in Jesus Christ, and is now home with her Lord. She grew up in Little Suamico just outside of Green Bay, graduating from Bay Port High. She won the Miss Green Bay Pageant in 1968, and was 2nd runner-up Miss Wisconsin that same year. She attended Whitworth College on a music scholarship, where she met her future husband Bill, and earned her MRS degree when they married in August of 1973. Nancy held a full time position as a wife and mother, and had a lifelong passion for "tickling the ivories". She played the piano throughout school, and continued to share her gift by volunteering to play for various church and charity functions, and by teaching lessons. Nancy and Bill raised two boys, Todd and Mike, who were both born in Spokane and raised in Redmond and Bellevue, WA. Some of the best family memories were made during summer months at Newman Lake. Nancy was diagnosed with Stage 4 breast cancer on August 4, 2009 - the day of her 36th wedding anniversary. Her initial treatments began at Evergreen Hospital in Kirkland by Dr. Matt Lonergan and Dr. Jeff Tomlin. Dr. Steve Anthony and the team at Evergreen Hematology and Oncology in Spokane continued to provide wonderful care for Nancy. The family is very thankful for all the efforts from these medical professionals. Nancy is survived by her husband of 40 years, Bill of Spokane, WA, sons Todd (Ally) of Austin, TX and Mike of Seattle, WA, and "Nana's" grandsons, Keeton (4) and Deacon (2). She is also survived by her parents, sisters Sharon Brandt of Jupiter, FL, Lori Maves of Appleton, WI, and brother Roger Gajafsky of Miami, FL. There will be two memorial services, one in Green Bay, Wisconsin and one in Spokane. The times and locations will be published at www.nancyjourney.blogspot.com. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Nancy's memory to Whitworth University, Office of Institutional Advancement, 300 W. Hawthorne Rd., Spokane, WA 99251.
