Nancy Kay Gartin (Mollett) was born on August 8, 1952 in Portland, Oregon to Donald and Shirley Mollett. Her family moved to Fairbanks, Alaska in 1960 where she attended elementary, middle, and high school. Following high school, she and her brother David owned and operated The Comic Shop in Fairbanks for many years. Nancy graduated from the University of Alaska Fairbanks with a bachelor’s degree in geography. She worked for the State of Alaska at the Department of Transportation and Public Facilities as a civil drafter for over 20 years. Nancy’s love of Alaska kept her there for nearly 60 years. Her hobbies included gardening, sewing, biking, reading, camping, fishing, and traveling. Her friends and family will always remember her strength in raising two daughters as a single mother. Later in life she selflessly cared for her father who suffered a stroke ensuring he had a full life. Nancy loved to joke and always appreciated anyone with a good sense of humor which enabled her to make friends anywhere. Nancy retired from the State of Alaska and moved to Liberty Lake, Washington where she joined the YMCA, became the secretary of her neighborhood homeowner’s association, and enjoyed crafting, hiking and sleepovers with her granddaughters. Nancy is survived by her children Alyssa Hobbs (Sam) and Roselyn Nethercott (Shane); brother David Mollett (Jessie); sisters Darcy Rosenbluth (Burt), Elizabeth Mollett (Mitch), three grandchildren and many loving nieces and nephews.
A graveside service is scheduled for September 17, 2021 at 10:30am at Pines Cemetery in Spokane, WA. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Nancy’s life. In lieu of flowers donations can be sent to No Kid Hungry.
