Known to friends as "Dick” was born near Sarles, North Dakota on May 15, 1925 to Henry Hyman and Mae Adell (Larter) Dickinson. Dick was the youngest of of 11 children. He spent his early childhood in North Dakota, moved to Metaline Falls as a teenager and graduated from Everett High School in 1943. He served in the US Navy from 1943-1945. He met the love of his life, Wilma L. Seehorn and married her on January 1, 1955. Together, they raised 8 children and enjoyed 17 grandchildren and several great and great-great grandchildren.
Dick provided for his family as a salesman achieving top honors selling life insurance for various companies for over 50 years. As a young, blended family, Dick and Wilma realized their need for Jesus. When they surrendered their lives to the Lord, their priorities changed. They became long time members of Opportunity Christian Fellowship in Spokane Valley serving the Lord in many capacities and raising their children at home in the church. If there was a need, Dick and Wilma were there to help meet it. If a friend was on their death bed, Dick and Wilma were there to tell them how much God loved them. From the time he was young, Dick took care of the people he loved, providing and protecting them faithfully.
He also loved playing, coaching and watching high school basketball. At 5’8”, Dick could palm a ball. In his later years, he became a fan of Gonzaga basketball. His real passion was being with his wife and loving his family and God.
Dick is survived by his wife of 63 years, Wilma (Seehorn), sons Duane Willmschen (Cheryl), James Dickinson and Richard Dickinson(Sheila), as well as daughters Sandra Tutton (James), Darlene Austin (Ken), Gail Withrow (Randy) and Debra Kaiser (Keith), 17 grandchildren, 34 great-grandchildren and 6 great-great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents, all of his siblings and a son, Terry Willmschen.
A Celebration of Dick’s life will be held at 11 am, on Saturday, September 15th, 2018 at Opportunity Christian Fellowship, 1313 South Pines Road, Spokane Valley with Reverend Kirby Bertholf officiating.
