On a hot, dust-bowl Sunday morning, on July 22, 1934 in Butler, Oklahoma, a precious baby girl was born to Reverend Horace and Edna Woodard at 10 AM. Her name was Patricia Jeanette. Patricia, known as Jeanette or Jan, joined three adult siblings: Lester, Lorena, and Vanita. Jan lived on a farm in Butler until she was three years old, then moved to Reydon, Oklahoma, where they continued to live on another farm until she was six years old. They then moved to the edge of town on a 5 acre plot where her father preached at the Baptist Church and did a little farming.
Jan stayed in Reydon until she graduated from high school. Upon graduation, she went to Oklahoma City, where she graduated from Draughn's Business College. After graduating from business college, she went to California to be with her sister Vanita. There, she got a job at Douglas Aircraft as a secretary.
She met and married Filmore Moisio in 1954 and they bought their first home in Westminster, California. Jan continued to work at Douglas until she had four daughters: Marilyn, Gwen, deceased at birth, Michele, and Nova. Filmore and Jan were married for 14 years until they divorced in 1968.
On September 11, 1975 she married Edward Kennedy, they had been introduced by a very special friend, Mary Wray.
In 1992, Ed and Jan moved to Nine Mile Falls in Stevens County, Washington, where they lived until 2002, when they moved to Spokane, Washington so Jan could be closer to doctors after a serious illness.
Jan had a passion for reading, crossword puzzles, and word searches. She was also known for her love for Christ, her contented spirit, and her unconditional love for her family and friends.
Jan was preceded in death by her husband Edward Kennedy, and her daughters Gwen Moisio and Michele Smeltzer. She is survived by her daughters Marilyn Nation of California, Nova Moisio-Roach of Washington, and step-daughter Dottie Lane of Florida; along with 8 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.
