Phyllis Dorothy Emond Koepsell, 68, of Otis Orchards, WA returned to her heavenly home on Sunday, September 20th, 2020 due to complications of a day-surgery. Phyllis was born December 31, 1951, and adopted by Louis Philippe Emond and Dorothy May Hill in beautiful Portsmouth, New Hampshire.
Born and raised in New Hampshire, she was always a New Englander at heart.
Serving a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints brought her west to Las Vegas Nevada, where she met her future husband Bernard Koepsell. She married her sweetheart in 1984 in the St. George, UT temple and several years later they would be blessed with a son, Hans, who would be the light of her life.
A lifelong passion for education, reading, people, and working with children, led her to work within the libraries in the Central Valley school district. She loved her work and blessed everyone who had the opportunity to meet her.
She had a deep and abiding faith and embraced and exemplified the greatest characteristics of our Savior, Jesus Christ; those of love, service, and selflessness. She lifted and loved everyone she met.
Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family, whether the family of her youth, the family she married into, the family she, her husband, and son became, or the family she gathered along her life’s journey. Other dear joys were serving in the church, cooking, baking, thrifting, crafting, and gifting. Her deep love of family drew her to research her family history and make connections through the generations. Changes in state laws enabled her to find her birth mother’s name, Rita Castonguay Danois, where this information was previously closed. Through DNA testing she was able to connect with distant cousins of her birth family who assisted her to find her sister, Michele, and her birth father, Pasquale Spaltro. Piecing this puzzle together after decades of searching was such a gift!
Phyllis is survived by her loving husband, Bernard; son Hans, and his bride, Emma; and so many other family members to name (it’s complicated!).
Phyllis is preceded in death by her parents, Louis Emond and Dorothy Hill; birth parents, Rita Danois and Pasquale Spaltro; father-in-law, Gunter Koepsell; and assorted furred and feathered babies too numerous to list.
We will be celebrating Phyllis’ life in private family settings.
As there will not be a public memorial service, we would appreciate it if you would take a few moments to share how she touched your lives by leaving your stories, memories, and love for Phyllis in the space below, as we will be creating a book of remembrance as her memorial. We love you all! …and so does she!
Instead of flowers, please consider donating to a local animal shelter, as Phyllis loved all creatures of the earth.
