Roberta was born on July 1, 1913 in Mayfield, KY. She was the second youngest of 5 girls & 5 boys. Proudly graduating as the valedictorian of her class at Dunbar High, Roberta remained at home until her marriage to Luther Johnson. During World War II, Luther and Roberta moved to Bremerton, WA working at the Navy base, then moved to Tacoma and eventually planting roots in Spokane, WA where they spent the most of their 50-year marriage.
Roberta would say one of her greatest accomplishments was to be able to buy her home in Spokane, where she lived for nearly 60 years, until her move to Woodinville, WA to be closer to her son and grandchildren.
Roberta was a Foster grandparent for the Headstart program for 25 years. She loved her children.
Some of her favorite things were home fried chicken, Christian music, the Bible and being an active member of the Southside Church of Christ. She was a fabulous cook, known for her coke a cola cake and dinner rolls.
Roberta was preceded in death by her parents Thomas and Amy Todd, her husband Luther Johnson, closest sister Jean Goodrum, nephews LaVelle Jordan and Dwayne Goodrum. She is survived by her son Jerome (Jerry) Luther Johnson, daughter in law Dorella Johnson, grandchildren Jacinda Lund and James Johnson and great grandchildren Aiden, Kylie and Aliyah from Kirkland, WA. Nieces LaWanda Sparks and Gwendolyn Finborg and numerous great nieces and nephews including Angela Pace, DaShawn Jordan, Ciara May and Anthony Shirahama from Spokane, WA.
We are grateful for the richest memories and best of times shared with Roberta. A funeral service and celebration of her life will be held on Saturday September 11th, 2010 at 2:00 pm at Hazen & Jaeger Funeral Home, 1306 N. Monroe St.
