He was born March 20, 1945, in Grand Island, NE to Raymond and Kathyrn Pedersen. Roger was the second oldest of what would become a large brood of nine children. The family moved to Great Falls, MT where Roger attended high school. He received a master's degree in urban planning and excelled as a college wrestler, ultimately landing him in the MSU Hall of Fame years later with his teammates. He was so thrilled with this honor!
Roger moved to Helena in 1976 where he remained for over 40 years. Here he raised a daughter (Heather), built two homes, and spent thirty years working for the State of Montana. A background in carpentry combined with a career in Section 8 housing led him to restoration projects, such as the Atlas building, that ultimately became safe, affordable housing. He went on to co-found the local Habitat for Humanity chapter and served as their first president. He was a trusted volunteer for the Historic Preservation Society, YWCA and the Catholic Diocese. He truly loved Helena and its heritage and was intent on preserving it for future generations.
Roger was a beloved son, brother, and a devoted father and friend. He was generous and kind and never met a person he wouldn’t help. He was elated to assist friends with a new home inspection or a construction project, always with meticulous precision. He was an eagle eye shot and an avid gun collector. He loved the rumble of classic cars and the sound of a Harley. He was a great dancer and loved a good time. He enjoyed life and the simple things. A beautiful day, a magnificent Montana sunset or a visit with friends over a glass of wine. He will be missed by all that knew and loved him.
Roger is survived by his daughter, Heather, brothers Randy, Mike, Ken, Mark, Paul and sister Kathleen as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Kathryn, his brother Larry and his sister, Marilyn.
A celebration of life will be held at the The Myrna Loy on October 4, 2023, at 5:30pm. A funeral mass will be held in Great Falls at Holy Spirit Catholic Parish on October 5th at 11:00am.
