Royce (Roy) Eldon Duncan passed away on July 2, 2018. Royce was born in Meade, Kansas to Ernest and Hazel Duncan on October 13, 1941. He is survived by his wife of 40 years Aracelia Hernandez Duncan and his step children Mike Brito (Kelly),Sami Peel (Dave),Toni Brito Jr., Celeste Monahan(Dave), two cousins he was raised with Dee Kuhn, Steve Newland, nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son Reed Duncan, brothers Harold, Howard, Merle and sisters Norma and Mary. At the age of 8 after losing both of his parents only 45 days apart, Royce went to live on his mother's sister Betty’s farm with her family. He loved the farm and considered it home, often speaking of it throughout the years. He joined the Air Force where he served 4 years. Later he went to work for the Spokane Airport Fire Department for 28 years until retirement. During this time he met and married the love of his life Aracelia. He was always by his wife's side from raising children to opening and maintaining a restaurant. Royce, was a loving husband, father and friend, along with being quite the handyman. He proved this daily by maintaining and repairing things at home and at what he said was his wife's restaurant. He always said he was just the janitor, when asked “why”, he said the restaurant was his wife's, he would say, “It is easier I just don't have to answer any questions that way.” Aracelia would like to thank Sacred Heart Hospital, Saint Luke's and Saint Joseph's rehab centers for the exceptional care they took of Royce during his last months with them and the love and support they gave to her and her family. She would also like to thank all of their friends and loyal customers for all of the prayers and support given to the family during this difficult time. A Memorial Service will be held at Hazen & Jaeger Valley Funeral Home, 1306 N. Pines Rd., July 28, 2018 at 2:00 pm. A Reception follows at The Thirsty Dog, 3037 E. Liberty Ave., Spokane, WA 99207.

Royce was my first cousin, but I considered him my brother. Both his parents died when he was very young, and Royce was raised with my family in Indiana. Roy's mother and my mother were sisters. I loved Royce very much, and we remained close thru the years despite the distance. He was a very caring, sweet person, and family meant so much to him. He continued to make the trip to Indiana to see my mother every couple years until she passed 3 years ago. He will be missed dearly.

I am so sorry for your loss, Aracelia. Please know that Royce is very missed and my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this very difficult time. I hope to see you soon.
