Sarah Jayne Jensen was born on May 1, 1918 in Tonkawa, OK to
Ethel and Meade Campbell, and passed away on October 13, 2016 at
the age of 98 in Spokane, WA. Sarah was raised on a farm in Elk, WA,
and graduated from Riverside High School. Throughout her high
school years, she participated in baseball and basketball programs,
making her an avid and lifelong baseball fan. Occupation included
cooking in different positions from wheat ranches to school lunch
programs for most of her adult life. Sarah and Don were married after
Pearl Harbor was bombed, and WWII was declared in 1941.
Her husband returned from duty and, together they raised four children.
Sarah's hobbies included gardening, cooking, and spending time
with children, grandchildren and great- grandchildren, but her love of
quilting was unsurpassed. She made over 100 quilts for family,
extended family, and close friends. Pinochle was her favorite game -
she and her family would spend hours counting points well into the
night. Zane Grey was her favorite writer, but she enjoyed many
western/pioneer authors as well. She was a Christian and believed in
the Golden Rule.
Preceding her in death are two sons, Dana and John Jensen who
were lost during the Vietnam war; her husband of 62 years, Don A. Jensen;
brother Dee MCVay and sister, Dorothy Eagle. She is survived
by her brother, HP McVay; daughter, Sharron Casapulla; and son Ross Jensen,
as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was known by many, and loved by all those who knew her. She will be sorely missed.
A memorial service for Sarah Jayne will be held at the Jensen Memorial Youth Ranch building
located at 620 N. Stanley St., Medical Lake, WA 99022 on October 22, 2016 at 2:30 p.m.
