Sharon Marie Burger

January 19, 1944March 10, 2018

Our beloved mother, grandmother, and friend Sharon Marie Burger went to be with the Lord on March 10, 2018 surrounded by family. Sharon was born to Alfred Winckler and Emma Fastnacht on January 19, 1944 in Parkston, South Dakota.

In her early days Sharon waitressed at the Dixie Restaurant in Pierre, South Dakota where she met the love of her life James Burger. James and Sharon were married March 28, 1964. In 1969 Sharon and James moved to the Spokane area with their two oldest sons; James and Tim. James and Sharon went on to welcome three more children Ron, David and Sheryl. Sharon worked various jobs including caring for 27 children in her in-home daycare. Sharon and James later started a plumbing business together where she worked as James’s partner and assistant.

Sharon was known for her faith in Jesus Christ and throughout the years attended Cary Church, Otis Orchards Community Church, Liberty Lake Baptist, FourSquare, River of Life, as well as most recently Genesis Church. Sharon shined in her motherly duties specifically her days as a Den Mother for Boys Scouts, Campfire Leader, Awana Leader, and finding fellowship in her bible studies. Her hobbies included gardening and tending to her flowers. She especially enjoyed canning all of her yield with her children and grandchildren.

Family was everything to Sharon. You often would find Sharon behind a camera or video camera whenever there was any sort of gathering. She loved being with her children and upon being promoted to grandmother and great grandmother she took her duties of “spoiling rotten” very seriously. She will always be remembered on each holiday for the small tokens of love she would spend her day handing out to all of her loved ones. Sharon was a very selfless and forgiving human who wanted anyone she encountered to be happy, feel loved and for everyone to know that Jesus loves them. Up until the very end she told her family “she had things to do”. Sharon will always be remembered for her beautiful smile.

Sharon was preceded in death by her mother Emma and her father Alfred. Sharon is survived by her husband of 54 years, James, her 5 children; James (Marlis), Tim (Sue), Ron (Trudy) David (Courtney), and Sheryl (Dave) Henderson, 15 grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren all of Spokane, WA. Her brother Gerald (Debbie) Winckler of Sacramento, CA, her sister Marlene (Jerry) Morehouse of Rapid City, SD and her sister Sandy (Roy) Fastnacht of Council Bluffs, IA.

All friends and family are invited to share in celebrating the life of Sharon at a funeral service which will be held Monday, March 19 at 11:00 am including a viewing from 10:00 to 10:45 at Genesis Church, 810 S. Sullivan Rd, Spokane Valley, WA 99216. Flowers may be sent to Genesis Church.
