Sybil Joan Gray

Sib was born on May 27, 1938, in San Diego, CA. She graduated from high school in Long Beach, CA, and joined the United States Navy, where she met her future husband and the love of her life, Charles Rolland Gray, Jr. (Chuck).

She earned a bachelor’s degree from San Diego State University, and a double masters degree from Eastern Washington University (EWU). She was a teacher and counselor at EWU until her retirement.

Sib and Chuck were married for 45 years until his passing in 2005, and were blessed with three daughters — Teresa Simas (Ronald) with granddaughters Nazare´ and Elizabeth of San Diego, CA; Kathleen with grandson Matthew and great granddaughter Caroline of Spokane Valley, WA; Jennifer Eisner (Marc) of Bothell, WA, with grandsons Andrew, Cameron, and Tyler. She is also survived by her brother Dennis Sunderman (Maria) of Signal Hill, CA. She will be greatly missed by her wonderful circle of friends, particularly her special travel partner, Stan. She was preceded in death by her brother Chip Sunderman and sister Lois Green.

Services will be held at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery in San Diego, CA, on May 19, 2016, at 10am. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Catholic Charities of Spokane, specifically the House of Charity or St. Margaret’s Shelter, or Medical Lake Food Bank in Medical Lake, WA.

The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane for their loving care and for making Sib’s journey to Heaven peaceful and calm, and to her good friend Claudia Lium for enabling us to say our goodbyes.
