

Cox, Velma Lenora (Bailey) (Age 88) Born May 16, 1922 passed away on November 19, 2010. She was the youngest of three children born to Harvey and Velma Bailey in Kim, Colorado. During the dust bowl days of the depression she moved with family to Sandpoint, ID area in 1934. There she attended school, with Ellis Cox, and fell in love with him. After she graduated with the class of 1940 Velma and Ellis were united in marriage and just celebrated 70 years together July 14, 2010. Velma devoted her life to Christ when she was just a girl and served Him throughout her life as she led children’s ministries, directed drama productions and was a church pianist. Serving as Pinelow Girl’s Camp director and speaker was a special joy to Velma, as was her life as a pastor’s wife. Velma is survived by her husband Reverend Ellis G. Cox at the home in Mead, WA; and by her two daughters, Lavona Smith (Richard) of Kenai, AK, and Joyce Chitwood (Monte) of Mead, WA; six grandsons: Nathan Smith (Debbie), Joel Smith (Nikki) and Daniel Smith, all of Kenai, AK, Josh Smith (Melissa) of Monte Vista, CO, Lane Chitwood (Hilary) of Boise, ID, Matthew Chitwood of Washington DC; one granddaughter, Vicki Shingleton (Lamont) of Spirit Lake, ID; nine great grandchildren: Josh, Samantha, Jacob, Samuel, Julia, Audrey, Natalie, William and Maria; three great great grandchildren, J.J., Mariah and Kendra. Those preceding her in death are her parents, her sister Dottie , her oldest daughter Anita, her son Gary along with his wife Linda and their daughter Vonnie. Visitation on Monday, November 22, 2010 from 2:00- 8:00 PM. A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, November 23, 2010 at 2:00 PM at the Westside Church of the Nazarene, 2820 W Francis Ave. Interment at Fairmount Memorial Park. Memorial contributions can be made to Northwest Nazarene University to the Ellis and Velma Cox Scholarship Fund 623 Holly St, Nampa, ID 83686.
