

Schaar, Walter John (Age 79) - Born July 10, 1931 in Mt. Vernon, WA. Passed away unexpectedly from an aneurysm on August 31, 2010 in Spokane, WA. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Trellis Schaar, at home; son, James Dana Schaar (Kerry) of Crookston, MN; daughter, Carol Trellis Shirk (David) of Colorado Springs, CO; daughter-in-law, Jeannie Schaar; grandchildren: Gail Suzanne Schaar, Eric Michael Schaar (Julie), Samuel Christian Schaar (Rachelle), Alexandra Arial Schaar, Timothy Michael Shirk, Lisa Trellis Shirk, Carissa Grace Shirk; and great-grandson, Cadence Walter Schaar. He was preceded in death by his son, Michael Charles Schaar June 2, 2010. Walt was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Walt and Trellis were married September 1, 1951. He was a member of the US Air Force, serving in the 560th Band. He had a lifelong love for music and excelled at marimba playing and percussion. Walt passed on his love for music to his entire family. He had a long and successful career in the television industry. He was a member of the Hamblen Park Church Choir and several community bands. Walt loved his hometown of Fairfield, WA and remained active in many community events, including the annual Flag Day celebration. He spearheaded the 2010 reunion and centennial celebration. He served as President of the board for the historical museum in Fairfield. Walt was a willing volunteer carpenter for many family and friends and for community projects. Memorial service will be held at 2:00pm, Friday, September 10, 2010 at Hamblen Park Presbyterian Church, 4102 S. Crestline, Spokane, WA.
