William Irvine Hooe, (Bill) was born in Santa Ana, California on November 29, 1930 to Walter and Olive Noble Hooe, the youngest of five children. He was preceded in death by his wife Helen after celebrating 63 years of marriage, his sister, Deva and his two brothers, Valeday and Velvendy Hooe. William spent his younger years in California, moving to Spokane WA in 1943, settling in the White Bluff area. It was here where he honed his love of adventure by jumping freight trains that passed by the edge of his property. As a teenager he spent weekends hanging out with friends at the local Grange where he met and fell in love with Helen. Willie or Daddy 0, as Helen would call him, were married on May 28, 1950 and settled in Victory Heights. In 1951 he enlisted in the Air National Guard, during the Korean conflict, and was deployed to Fairbanks, Alaska. That turned out to be, in spite of some hardships, the adventure of their lives. Upon returning to Spokane, they settled on the north side. William spent the majority of his life driving truck for United Buckingham and retired in 1985. William and Helen built their own home across the road from where he grew up. His skills in carpentry came natural to him and his work is showcased throughout his home. Their home was a place where parties and family gatherings brought them so much joy. William could entertain for hours story telling. He had the greatest sense of humor and his laugh was contagious! William had one wish and that was to be able stay in his home until he died. His wish was fulfilled when he passed away quietly June 12, 2015. William is survived by his sister, Dea Hooe Smith of Brea California, his two children Kaye (Paul) Powell of Battleground WA and Glen (Brenda) Hooe of Cusick WA; eight grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He loved the outdoors! Fishing and hunting with family left memories for many of the fortunate who were able to hunt with him. His skills and passion have been passed down to three generations. He had a deep love of family. He was gracious, appreciative and he was pure in who he was. What you saw is what you got. He will be greatly missed. Graveside Services will be Saturday, June 20, 2015 at 3pm at Greenwood Memorial Terrace, Spokane, Washington.
