Alfred "Chick," was born on February 11, 1926 in Milwaukee, WI, the youngest of eight children, to Alfred and Louise (Berg) Leistikow. He married Mary Ann Sanders on January 15, 1949. They made their home in Milwaukee until moving to Rice Lake, WI in 1991. He lived his life as a hard-working, devoted husband, father, and grandfather with a quick witted sense of humor. Chick heroically served his country during World War II in both Germany and Austria, being honorably discharged with 2 bronze medals. He loved the thrill of skydiving, competing in countless competitions throughout Wisconsin. He worked as a cement truck driver, pouring concrete for many landmarks throughout Milwaukee. He also enjoyed many travels with his beloved wife, especially their many trips to Europe, in part due to his interest and knowledge of airplanes. Later in life, he discovered a love of running, which became a daily activity of enjoyment and satisfaction for the remainder of his life, even completing a 5K run with his granddaughter at the age of 77. He adored his grandchildren, always making their entertainment his #1 priority whenever they were around. He was ecstatic to become a great-grandfather to twins.
Al was preceded in death by his parents, wife of 59 years, and his seven siblings. Among those who survive and were blessed to have him in their lives are his son and daughter-in-law, Alfred and Joan Leistikow of Dallas, TX; his daughter and son-in-law, Lori and David Bock of Minong, WI; 5 grandchildren, Jeremiah (Cassidy) Bock, Jessica (Nick) Sargent, Jenny Bock, Logan Leistikow and Luke Leistikow; great-grandchildren Max Sargent and Emme Sargent.
Family members are especially thankful to the many team members who contributed to his care at the hospital and Benedictine Nursing Home.
Memorial services will be held at 11 am on Friday, June 14, 2013 at Christ Lutheran Church in Lampson, WI. A gathering for family and friends will take place at the church from 10 to 11 pm prior to the service, with interment in the Northern Wisconsin Veterans Memorial Cemetery at Spooner, WI.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations made to The Parkinson's Research Center or Alzheimer's Association.
