March 31, 1936 – December 30, 2013
Betty Seckora courageously battled many health issues so that she could stay with her beloved family, then peacefully moved on to her Heavenly family on Monday, December 30, 2013. Betty's parents, the late Edward and Mary (Swonger) Zehm, raised her in a humble, happy home. Their large family grew up on Deer Lake in Casey Township in a house overflowing with love. Betty's childhood was filled with gatherings for friends and family with sliding and skating parties, hayrides, and, most of all, music and dancing. Betty's parents always made sure their children were well behaved, and, although poor, were given special treats of ice cream or pop when they were on an outing. Local town halls and taverns were frequently a gathering place for dances and parties. There, Betty met her husband, Donald Seckora, who feels blessed to have had a long, happy life with her. For their first date together, Don picked up Betty in his 1946 Oldsmobile, which today sits in their son, Ricky's, garage.
Betty was known as the hard working and fun loving co-worker as a nurses aide and laundry aide at the Spooner nursing home and hospital. She dedicated over 30 years loving and caring for the residents of the nursing home to ensure their dignity and happiness in that stage of their lives. Betty continued her parent's style of raising her children with love and happiness. She adored children of all ages and loved to indulge them. Her arms were always open and she was generous in giving whatever she could. There was rarely a garage sale Betty would miss and she would always find treasures to buy for everyone else. She could fry panfish to a delicacy and her legendary potato salad will be greatly missed at all future family gatherings. She had numerous flower gardens throughout her yard that she strove to protect from deer. Betty loved to celebrate Easter and Thanksgiving at her home; preparing extremely large meals and never sitting down herself until everyone else had their food. The music and dancing continued throughout her life; she would always be the first person on and the last one off the dance floor. Betty is survived by her husband, Don, who will greatly miss her company at the nursing home. Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were the center of her life and brought her immense joy. Betty will be immeasurably missed by her children, Donald Jr., Ricky (Nancy), Debra (Edward) Romportl, and Barbara (Ryan) Orne. Missing their wonderful grandma are Kimberly (Brian) Romportl Kreier, Edward Romportl Jr., Amanda (Anthony) Orne-Loew, Matthew Orne, Shelby Seckora, and Connor Seckora. Great-grandchildren, Aubree and Kianna Kreier, are thrilled to have had 'Grandma-Great' to play with and love them. Baby Loew, who will be born in July, 2014, will have a loving family tell them about the great grandmother they never knew. Betty will also be greatly missed by her sisters Mary Emerson, Joan Love, and Barbara Love. In addition to Betty’s parents, Edward and Mary Zehm, her siblings Edward Zehm, Edna Grimm, Dick Zehm, Jean Love, and Carol Petz will welcome her to heaven. Betty’s funeral service was held on Friday, January 3rd, 2014 at Dahl’s Funeral Home and she was laid to rest in Spooner Cemetery.
