Born on November 19, 1944, in Madison, Wisconsin, Liz moved to the Spooner area with her husband, James Curran, in 1978 where they raised their five children on Deep Lake. Elizabeth was a loving wife and mother who gave generously of her time and talents. Liz was active in the St. Francis de Sales Parish, and loved to crochet gifts for her family and expectant mothers at the Pregnancy Help Center in Rice Lake. After graduating with high honors from WITC with a degree in data processing, she worked for WITC administrative offices in Shell Lake. Prior to retiring she served as secretary in the St. Francis Catholic Church Office. Her spirit found the most peace, inspiration and connection during trips to Lake Superior with family members, visiting Leif Erickson Park, the Rose Garden, and many other favorite places along this beautiful region. She loved unconditionally and felt happiest while "the sun was shining" as she was often heard to say.
Liz is preceded in death by her husband, James Brian Curran; her parents, John and Henrietta Kurt; and brother, Thomas Kurt.
Liz is survived by her children, Daniel (Gina) Curran, Andy Curran, Karen (Bill) Collins, Lisa (Tim) Harding, and Katherine Curran; siblings, John (Elaine) Kurt, Lawrence (Jan) Kurt, Marilyn Wipperfurth, Elaine (Clarence) Shaw-Rumpel, Dianne Olson, Frederick (Joy) Kurt, Raymond (Nancy) Kurt, and Beverly Kurt; nine grandchildren; three great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 p.m. (visitation 12-1 p.m.) on Friday, February 7, 2014, at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Spooner with celebrant Fr. Ed Anderson. Music will be by the St. Francis de Sales Choir.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be directed to the Pregnancy Help Center in Liz's name where she volunteered weekly. Please make checks payable to the center at P.O. Box 334, Rice Lake, Wisconsin.
