

June Virginia Harmon was born on February 11, 1933, in the Town of Casey near the current day Leisure Lake Youth Camp, to parents Foster and Iva (Swonger) Harmon. June attended many area and regional schools including Trego, Julia (near Dunn Lake), Superior, Spooner, and Delavan where she graduated High School in 1951. She stayed in Delavan with her family and worked at a restaurant on Lake Delavan, at the Shultz Brothers Variety Store, and also at the Admiral Television Factory in Harvard, Illinois as an inspector. On Saturday, October 27, 1951, she came back to Spooner for the weekend to be united in marriage to Chester “Chet” Peterson at the Spooner United Methodist Church, and the couple returned together to Delavan on Sunday. They moved back to Spooner in 1955, and in 1961, built their current home on Harmon Street. In April of 1973, June began working at the Spooner Hospital, where she worked in the Dietary Department for exactly 20 years, retiring in April of 1993. June was a member of the Spooner United Methodist Church, Local 2425, AFSCME, AFL-CIO, enjoyed music, and loved animals.
June is survived by her husband of 61 years, Chet, children: Donald Peterson of Spooner, April (Kevin) Morse of Spooner, grandchildren: Lacey (Paul) Donatell, Andrew Morse, Tangela Peterson, Lance Peterson, great granddaughters: Katelyn, Khloe, great grandson Biniyam, sister May (Anton) Olson, and nephew Alfred (Fay) Olson.
June is preceded in death by her parents, and brother Robert Harmon.
A celebration of June’s life will be held on Wednesday, March 20, 2013, at 11am, at the Spooner United Methodist Church with Pastor Jack Starr officiating. Special music will be provided by Dean and Paty Brayton, Jo Henrikson, the John Gingrich Family, and Pastor Jack Starr. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 19, 2013, from 4-7 pm, at the Dahl Funeral Home, and also on Wednesday, from 10-11 am at the Church. Interment will follow at the Spooner Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Chris Christiansen, Andrew Morse, Kevin Morse, Alfred Olson, Lance Peterson and Roger Peterson. Honorary casket bearers will be Pat Hanson and Don Shoquist.
In lieu of flowers, memorials would be appreciated to the Washburn County Humane Society, or the American Cancer Society in June’s name.
